Scabies Home Remedies...Natural, Safe and Effective

Scabies home remedies are a safe and effective solution to harsh chemical medications. Does the thought of scabies ick you out? Those nasty little mites are itchy, annoying and highly contagious.

Scabies is sometimes known as sarcopotic mange...or even just "the itch"...or rather "THE ITCH" (imagine scary music inserted here). as No one likes to think about scabies, and fortunately it's not TOO common. However, if you or your child does end up with "THE ITCH" then check out these home remedies for scabies.

It should be noted that scabies is highly contagious. So, if one family member has scabies, generally the entire family is treated.

Scabies is caused by teeny, tiny little mites (Sarcoptes scabiei) that burrow under the skin and cause intense itching, red rashes and infection. Sometimes little S-shaped burrows and pimple-like nodules are seen. Diagnosis of scabies is often difficult since the symptoms mimic many other skin conditions.

Symptoms of scabies occur anywhere from 2 days to 6 weeks after infestation...with the earlier onsets occurring in people who have had scabies before. The symptoms are not caused by the mites themselves, but rather by the body's allergic reaction to the mites. This is the reason for the long incubation period in first-time victims. as

Sometimes a secondary infection, such as impetigo or cellulitis accompanies scabies.

People with compromised immune systems are prone to Norwegian Scabies or Crusted Scabies....which is even WORSE than regular scabies. Norwegian scabies is characterized by a scaly rash and thickened skin. This type of scabies is much more difficult to treat. as

Scabies is highly contagious and caused by scratching or even simply touching another person's skin. Scabies can also be transferred via objects (ie. blankets, pillows, clothing, toilets, etc.) as the mite can survive for anywhere from 2-14 days away from the human host. as

Pesticide medications such as Lindane and Permithrin are oftentimes used to treat scabies. However, there is research to suggest that home remedies for scabies may also be very effective...and much safer.

  • Naturally you will want to avoid scratching (it spreads the scabies around your body) and wash/disinfect all clothing, bedding..anything you come in contact with. Clean everything very thoroughly everyday. This is very important to prevent re-infection. Washing hands meticulously is also extremely important.
  • Neem Oil and Turmeric are two effective scabies home remedies. In one study, a Neem and Turmeric Paste cured 97% of scabies cases within 3-15 days of treatment.ap Learn more about how turmeric benefits you.
  • Another study conducted in Nigeria used "crude" aloe vera gel to treat scabies. It was found to be as effective as benzyl benzoate without any side effects.ap Learn more about the medicinal uses of aloe vera.
  • Undiluted tea tree oil can be used directly on the infected areas. To help with the itching, mix 1/4 cup of olive oil or coconut oil and add 5 or 6 drops of Tea Tree Oil. Spread this over the infected areas of the body. Do this as many times a day as needed to control itching and kill the mites. Learn more tea tree oil uses.
