My depression story

by Carol
(NY)

I can't say that I have cured my depression I have suffered from all of my life, however I have several ways of keeping it from taking over my life.

Rest is so important! I try to go to bed and get up at the same time everyday. I can tell if my depression is worsening if I am staying up late and sleeping away the day.

My diet has never been the greatest. I really don't care for vegetables and fruit however without these in my diet I feel horrible.

Socialization. Like many other people with depression, I tend to isolate myself from friends and family especially in the winter months. I make myself get out and talk to others which I have to admit is hard at times.

Exercise. Did everyone just moan with me?! I hate to exercise so I find more enjoyable ways to fit it in. I garden with my daughter, push mow my lawn and take my kids on nature walks. It is easier when it's fun.
