I Swear By This for Heartburn

by Alicia
(Delaware, USA)

A cold glass of milk.

I was watching the food network one day. They were doing a show on extremely spicy foods.

This restaurant served these hot wings made with this dangerously hot sauce. Along with the wings they would serve a scoop of sour cream, a scoop of ice cream, or a glass of milk. It was the customers choice.

The dairy product served as an immediate neutralizer to the spice in case the customer had to bail from the heat of the wings quickly. :) Water wasn't going to cut it.

I used to suffer from really bad heartburn in the middle of the night. One time this happened to me I grabbed a glass of milk instead of my usual water, or alka-seltzer and it worked almost immediately.

It washed away that burning, acid taste and sensation and seemed to settle my stomach as well.

Now it never takes more than a glass of milk to solve even a bad heartburn problem as fast as I can drink it.
